Leadership Law of the day

I know the readers of this blog are mostly leaders and smart people
So I'm going to start posting Leadership 'Laws' that can help you grow as a leader
today's Leadership Law is..

Parkinson Law
Parkinson's Law is the adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion."

  • In Project Management, individual tasks with end-dates rarely finish early because the people doing the work expand the work to finish approximately at the end-date.
  • Individuals see this arise in their daily activities as well. A person with many tasks to do will allocate their time so that all of the tasks are completed, while an elderly, retired person may take all day just to pick out a greeting card. In this case, the work that is expended upon each task expands to fill the available time for the task. This leads to the canard, "If you want something done, give it to a busy person".
  • As an individual's income rises, their costs of living and lifestyle increases to meet their income level*
  • How can a leader use this law to grow his or hers leadership capacity

When you lead a team, learn to create a sense of rigorous (but not ruthless) urgency and deadline that is earlier then the mission true deadline. Why? This enables you to review the quality of the teams objective before the true deadline and it trains the team to learn not to waste time.

Mentor people to live and operate in their ministry below their means without comprising to much quality.

In observing this leadership law let these words resonate in your mind...
    Maturity and Momentum
Maturity is needed because we must learn to operate and train people to be focused and fruitful stewards of their time and treasure.
Momentum favors speed as well as consistent and concurrent completion of projects (I like to say Projects project, positive projections influence perception, perception births expectation and expectation helps birth excellence).

I hope you enjoyed this post. Why don't you pray and reflect how you can use this law to grow your leadership.
