Teamwork makes the dream work!
hey everybody,
Today I want to share with you guys the importance of teams. Since I know I have the smartest readers I'm not going to bore you with what you already know but I want to give you some simple tips that may help.
A team needs a goal and an opponent- a record labels goal maybe a Gold album(500,000 units sold) and their opponent is anyone else coming out that same Tuesday from their same musical genre (i.e Fifty and Kayne). Now for a church it gets a little complicated because our goal and 'opponent' are often immeasurable, spiritual or invisible intangibles because a church just can't measure attendance and offerings due to the fact that we have to take into account the atmosphere and internal growth of the members during the service(in the future I will cover how a church can gauge these factors)
A team needs good biology- This refers to the fact a team need good people
A team needs good Chemistry- A great team know how to work together in a unified effort
A team needs a uniform- You can't underestimate the importance of having your team gear, like company T-shirts and etc.
A team needs a 'historian'-all good team archive, take pictures/video, record statistics and journal the journey.
A team needs a front office- all teams eventually need proper administration. Thats why New England Patriots always compete at a high level every year because their front office (Scott Pioli) has a great philosophy this applies to the Yankees, Mets (lately), Oakland A's and Red Socks and on the opposite end certain teams are always in a mess(Knicks, Bengals and lately Raiders) due to a lack of a competent front office strategy. Thats why Victory Outreach have the 3C Principles which are Cause, Community and Corporation because all churches should endeavor to have a strong administration team.
A good team needs to occasion bring in the 'hired Guns' (AKA Ringers)-Sometimes you have to bring in that slugger for a short term contract to take you to another level, For a church it may mean hiring an Evangelist to run you Evangelism ministry fro one year for a Car Dealer from Brooklyn it may mean Hiring a car Salesman from Las Vegas (where Cars or a necessity and where they have entertaining infomercials) for a 6 month contract to change the atmosphere of the business. Pastor Sonny Arguinzoni has shared with me in the past for a church to go to another level we often have to 'Import' leaders and I know as my church grows we will 'Import' leaders in the future (there are tons of people who want to live in the 'Big Apple')
A good team has a strong Farm team- We need to develop the 'bench'
A good team needs to celebrate their victories- When Rutgers Football team started to rebuild I remember after they won a game to qualify for a Bowl game the coach had to persuade the fans to come to the field and tear down the goal post...Why? The coach knew this was important for two reason...one because he had to establish the team in the student body's eye as a winning team and the picture of this victory will be used in future recruiting efforts, This is why in the reality show 'king of cars' after every sale the buyer will hit a bell to motivate other salespeople, to motivate other buyers like see your neighbor is happy and to create a 'happy reference' for the customer that he or she will always remember.
Ok Ok I know its getting boring now. I just get excited when I write about leadership.
Until later Love God...Love yourself...and Love your neighbor (even that guy that took your parking spot last Sat. When you went to Target...I know I Know Aaaargh Jesus take the wheel)
