Leadership Lessons from the Movie '300'

I just saw for the 3rd time the movie '300' and I want to share with 8 great lessons young leaders whether you are from the ministry or marketplace that we can learn from this movie

1) Start training them young- In Spartan culture youth were trained as warrior starting at I believe 7 or 9 years old and training was rough for everybody across the board(History channel had a special on this topic..check it out). Leaders today must start training future leaders as soon as possible, now in ministry the Bible says don't give leadership to a novice but we can inspire and inform them on the principles and benefits of leadership. Many of today's world class leaders started young, thats why I enrolling my sons (ages 3 and 4) in "head start'(Lil Ed the 4 year old is already in school) and in karate school because i want them start form principles, values and practices that will stay withem for life also we are going to have a sensei teach all the kids in our children's church Karate, we also have a leadership chapels on Fridays before our service that is open to all...because we are training to establish a church that will one day be a base that will raise up soldiers and world class leaders for the Kingdom of God.

2) Inspire your team to be focus- There was a scene where soldiers from another provide was convincing King Leonidas that there was a need for more soldiers and the highlight of the scene was when Leonidas asked some of the other army's men what they did for a living and one guy said he was a potter and when he asked the Spartans what they did they responded with a war cry! Its better to have a team of quality well trained people than a mob of people drowning in stress and mess who wind up doing less, remember Paul once said 'THIS ONE THING I DO'!

3) More often than not politics and rituals slow us down- When Sparta was in great danger and ready to face a war of epic proportion the council was focus on a traditional celebration and posturing and politicking, let other worry about popularity and awards great leaders focus on Purpose and letting God reward them in his due time.

4) Learn the art of calling Audibles- Most of you guys know I love Football and one of the best offenses ever was the Buffalo Bill 'K-Gun' in the early '90s when they had a no-huddle shotgun adjust on the fly attack. we as leaders (aka quarterbacks) must learn to change the plays on the line of scrimmage.Leonidas realized what works against foot soldiers doesn't always work against elephants. What works against elephants doesn't work against firebomb chucking sorcerers. The Spartans changed tactics as needed to face down the latest wave of attackers. this is why leaders in the ministry need a strong relationship with God and leaders in the marketplace need to read allot of journals, autobiographies and gain experience so we all can learn how to call audibles.

5) We need to cast vision and trust others to share the story- Leonidas knew that eventually the entire Spartan army would need to be mobilized to fight the Persians. Seeing the vision, he sent Dilios, a well spoken and inspirational speaker, back to Sparta to convince the council to give provision for the vision. Leonidas' wife Gorgo is also working to convince the council. In the Bible Nehemiah casted the vision every 3 weeks, we need to cast the vision and raise up people who can communicate the stories of the past, the current needs and the future aspirations because great leaders are a voice(like John the baptist was a 'voice crying in the wilderness'..thats good stuff :> but great leaders also know that we also need echoes so they vision can be casted to all.

6) Your wife and family got to be down with the 'program'- Leonidas wife released him without a burden (she didn't send him to cotsco first LOL) she said "come back with this shield or on it" our families can inaverdently slow us down we must make sure we communicate the importance of our vision.

7) Know your strengths and geography
Just as King Leonidas chose the Hot Gates as the perfect location for Sparta’s stand against the Persians
we must learn how to set up our battle (or marketing or Evangelism) plan that best suits our desired results and current strengths what works for church in Las Vegas might not work for a church in Brooklyn so know your territory, target and strengths

8) Never Surrender
This story will always be told not necessarily cause they won but because they were brave...throughout the Bible God says 'fear not'. Great leaders are brave and bold not bossy and cold!

in a few days I will give you guys lessons from the real '300'.... Gideons 300 in the bible!
